How Isa Zapata is using Social Media for her Silent Auction

I am always impressed with people who create, connect and engage for the greater good. Not because of reward, or simply to impress, but because it’s the right thing to do. This fits artist and philanthropist Isa Zapata. Already contributing to a nonprofit in Columbia and to artistic efforts for children in Miami, she is holding an eager-anticipated silent auction for a 5 year-old girl who is diagnosed with Pfeiffer Syndrome.

I am not surprised by her involvement. When you buy her artwork, some of the proceeds benefit important causes. She’s proud of this fact, and shares it with the public. Using social media for the social good is what she’s about. Here is my short conversation with one of the most fascinating do-gooders on the web, as she explains why her silent auction is generating buzz.

(1) You use social media to promote your charity work in Miami and Colombia. Has it been effective?

The truth is that I haven’t really promoted my charity work through social media. Although I have been working with charities in my native Colombia for the past 5 years, it is only recently that I have made it public. A couple of months ago I decided to add a “giving back” section on my blog and website to bring awareness for the different causes I support. Currently, I am working on a fundraising campaign for a 5 year-old girl from Mexico who is diagnosed with Pfeiffer Syndrome and have been actively sharing through Social media (Twitter, FB, LinkedIn, Tumblr and my blog). Even though the campaign is not out yet I’m using social media to create buzz and get more artists to donate for the auction.

(2) What has the response been to your upcoming silent auction? 

The silent auction for “Artistas Unidos Por Dani” is not active yet, I have been creating “viral buzz” about it by sharing updates on FB and Twitter regarding the celebrities that have donated to the cause and so far have had a great response. I will continue to create interest before, during and after the campaign is launched.   (We are planning to launch the auction in two weeks)

(3) How can people in general help you?

As soon as the campaign is online, I need for people to help me spread the word. We have one of a kind silent auction items like an autographed official FIFA  soccer ball from Barcelona FC Superstar David Villa, autographed items by Mega Latin Star Ricky Martin, an autographed calendar by Latin heart-throb William Levy, authentic wardrobe set pieces from Mexican actors Barbara Mori, Eugenio Derbez and Saul Lisazo to jewerly designs from local Miami artists. We need to raise $30K for Dani Muñoz Ojeda to have her craniofacial surgery and make her dream “to jump in a pool” for the first time ever, become a reality.
