Google Enters The Social Space With Google Buzz

[smartads]

Google announced this morning the official launch of its intended Twitter killer, Google Buzz, a Google approach to real time sharing of your content. According Google’s VP of Product Marketing, Bradley Horowitz, “It’s something exciting…”. Google Buzz is built right into Gmail. It will help surface your social graph by allowing you auto-follow the people you communicate with most via IM and email. Gmail will recognize who your friends are. According to Google’s product manager, Todd Jackson, It will provide robust and fast sharing experience for multimedia sharing. Sharing will be Google-indexed depending if the users decide to make their sharing public or private. Jackson went ahead to say it will filter out garbage and leave “just the good stuff.”

The Buzz tab will be located right under the Gmail inbox tab. Its social stream capability will feature content preview and will nicely integrate Flickr and Youtube, with pictures opening up in a lightbox-type UI. Shared links will preview headlines and thumbnails, just as you currently see on Facebook.

Google Buzz will feature @replies with auto-complete and notifications of @replies sent to your inbox. Shared buzz will be accessible to followers publicly along with your Google profile or privately to existing Gmail group or specified groups of choice. A buzz icon will inform users of shares and comments in their inbox in real time.

“You are going to love the new product experiences we will launch today”, says Jackson. Buzz can be consumed and used on your mobile. “one of Google’s great insides was pagerank, which gave websites relevancy. Now, we need to find relevancy in social expressions on Twitter and other social networks”, he said.

How do we find relevancy in the real world? What signals do we use to determine relevancy? Location is a powerful signal and with Buzz on your mobile, you can create instant buzz on the go. Buzz will be available from Google’s mobile homepage, mobile apps, and from a new Google Maps app for the major platforms. These apps will translate latitude and longitude into actual locations, then Buzz guesses with a place tag and asks for confirmation. With the “nearby” setting, posts and pictures from people around you will be made available.

The enterprise version of Google Buzz will be launching soon. “It will change the way business work around the world.”

While available journalists get first crack on the Buzz, it will be available to the rest of Gmail users within days.

  1. I spoke with a professor today about Buzz and he had an interesting theory. He thinks this is the first step toward having your friends market products or services to you through Google search. We all know that we're more likely to buy something that friends we trust recommend to us. Google would take that idea and put it into use. For instance, let's say you do a Google search for local restaurants. When your SERP comes up, you will see a list of restaurants along with a list of comments from friends of yours that have mentioned the restaurant through Buzz in some way. So not only will you get the same great results from Google when you search, but you'll also be able to see if your friends have said anything about what you're searching for, thus giving you the ability to see what the people you trust think about the product or service you're checking out. Pretty cool, huh? I could totally see that happening. Until then, I'm excited to get on Buzz and take it for a test drive.

  6. It’s my belief that mesothelioma will be the most fatal cancer. It has unusual qualities. The more I actually look at it the harder I am sure it does not behave like a real solid flesh cancer. When mesothelioma can be a rogue virus-like infection, therefore there is the potential for developing a vaccine plus offering vaccination for asbestos subjected people who are open to high risk involving developing upcoming asbestos connected malignancies. Thanks for sharing your ideas for this important ailment.
