Five Reasons to be on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is often the forgotten about social network. A lot of people aren’t really sure what to use LinkedIn for, but there are plenty of qualities you should love about the service. Here are five reasons you should think about creating a LinkedIn profile:

1. Networking

LinkedIn is known for its networking capabilities. It’s very important that you take advantage of that. Start by adding people you know to your network. Then, when you’ve built up a good-sized network, you can start to see people from your friends’ networks. It’s a great way to interact with and meet people who could be crucial to your industry or business.

2. It’s a chance to be a voice for your industry

LinkedIn allows you to participate in conversations, which gives you a great opportunity to be a voice for your industry and show how much of an expert you are. Join some groups that relate to your niche and get in on the conversation. This will also help you to network with people in your niche.

3. It’s a chance to hear about your industry

Being in a conversation is comprised of two parts: talking and listening. Make sure to do the latter. You never know what you can learn by listening to what other people in your industry are saying, or even what customers invested in your industry are talking about. LinkedIn makes this very easy for you to do, so don’t miss out on the opportunity.

4. Recruiting

You should always be looking for good, young talent. Those of us just coming out of college or graduate school are great investments for the future. Now that my shameless plug is done, LinkedIn provides you the ability to really hone in on who in your industry is worth bringing aboard. Being proactive in your hiring practices is a great way to ensure long-term growth and survival. Make a daily habit of checking out resumes.

5. Job listings

If you’re looking for a new job, LinkedIn is a great resource. LinkedIn often posts jobs that aren’t posted anywhere else, so that means you could be missing out on your dream job. No one wants to see that happen. Get on LinkedIn and make sure you don’t miss the chance to do what you love.
