Daily Twitter Habits You Must Cultivate

Twitter Habits

Old habits die hard and new habits don’t come easy – Twitter is no exception to that rule. If you’ve been using Twitter for a while, I’m sure you’ve become habitual with its use. Like our everyday lives, our Twitter lives also have good and bad Twitter habits.

While it’s advisable to adopt the good habits, it is strongly recommended staying away from bad habits – be it Twitter or our daily home/ work routine. This is especially important for newbies who are still finding their way around on Twitter. It is easy to get lost, tweet about what you should avoid and lose followers unknowingly. I use Twitter every day, be it week days or weekends and I make it a point to follow my Twitter routine regularly without any exceptions. So, what the daily Twitter habits that you should cultivate?

  • 1

    Be Regular

Out of sight is often out of mind and in case of Twitter; it implies ‘out of tweets is often out of mind'. As a business, you need to be regular on Twitter to derive the maximum benefits out of it. Twitter users have a short attention span and you don’t want your business to get off their radars. Tweeting at least once per day is highly recommended however; don’t just tweet for the sake of it. Make sure your tweets are genuine, informative and interesting. Nobody likes boring, uninteresting tweets and what’s worse, it is liable to encourage your followers to find an excuse to un-follow you.

    Learn something new everyday

In today’s technological environment and age of social media, businesses need to adopt a knowledge-driven approach. If you are not learning something new everyday, you are liable to miss out on opportunities. Make sure that you learn something new and tweet about it to your followers.

    Retweet regularly

Like writers, Twitter users too often experience a tweeter’s block (similar to a writer’s block) when they have just about nothing to tweet about. Thankfully, Twitter has millions of other knowledgeable and interesting users to help you about. Retweet catchy, informational or inspirational tweets from your followers and your followers will love it. If you see a Twitter user who might add value, befriend him/ her and generously retweet their tweets. A tweet’s content is what matters most, not who it’s coming from. Just remember this golden rule and never be afraid to retweet a message which’s worth a tweet. On the contrary, don’t take retweet as an excuse to spam others. Be judicious in what you tweet and what you retweet about.

    Prioritize your Twitter habits

If Twitter is a part of your business practices for marketing and customer service, prioritize it ahead of other non-critical tasks. If you are a business using Twitter, it should serve the same priority for you as the internet and email. Since I’ve been amongst the early adopters of Twitter, I have several professional contacts that actually prefer to send me quick direct messages on Twitter as opposed to sending emails. For me, Twitter ranks high on priority on my daily to-do list.

    Be courteous and generous

I’ve come across many Twitter users who heavily use slang and abusive language in their tweets/ profile. Trust me, it just doesn’t work. Especially if you are a business, I recommend staying away from such malpractices and focusing on the positive aspects of your business. Be courteous, courtesy matters. Publicly appreciate and thank people on Twitter when needed.

These Twitter etiquettes have worked wonderfully well for me and my business over the last few years and I’m sure they’ll work just as well for your business.
